A Shout From the Housetops Moment: Lord Danvers Arrives
By Donna Fletcher Crow ~ September 2, 2011
Oh, my goodness! There they are! All three of them!
That’s the way it is in this business: A publisher accepts a book— or in this case a series— and you’re very excited. Then you wait. And pray.
The cover artist asks you for input (if you’re very, very lucky) and you’re very excited. Then you wait. And pray.
Maybe you can’t tell a book by its cover, but let’s face it— if the cover isn’t good you won’t have much chance of having the book tell anything else. So weeks, maybe months go by and you wait. And hold your breath. And pray.
And finally the moment of truth. "Your covers are attached," the email says. And you hold your breath. And pray.
And then you either want to go hide under the bed or shout from the housetop and plaster the town with billboards.
You might guess from this buildup that I’ve just had a shout from the housetops moment. You’ll be hearing a lot more from me about Lord Danvers, my Victorian true crime series, but just for this golden moment I’ll let you share the excitement with me by simply looking at the covers. (And possibly by going on over to Amazon for more information.)

-Sylvia Dickey Smith, September 2, 2011
Wow, those are great! I'm so glad to see this series is getting a fresh start, too. We need more English mysteries. :D
-DeAnna Julie Dodson, September 2, 2011
My sentiments exactly, DeAnna!
Thank you, Sylvia. So glad to be back in touch. I discovered my posts from your historical group had been bouncing.

Wow. I can see why you're shouting from the housetops. Excellent covers--most enticing.
-C.K.Crigger, September 2, 2011

-Donna, September 2, 2011
Very exciting, Donna. I will be in town Sep 15-19 and Sep 29-Oct 3; any chance of getting together for a cup of tea? (Going to England to take my granddaughter to Capernwray Bible Hall in the "in between" dates.)
-JudySloetmaker, September 2, 2011
Absolutely, Judy. Give me a ring when you're in town. We'll make plans! Ahhh going to England!

Donna, these covers are just gorgeous. I don't read many historicals but these covers make me want to go straight to Amazon and look up the books. Best of luck to you!
-Pat Browning, September 3, 2011
Thank you, Pat. If you decide to give history in the form of Victorian true crime mysteries a look let me know how you like them. This series really is quite different because every novel has a true crime and a fictional one.
-Donna, September 3, 2011
Hey, Donna, terrific covers! You must be proud! Best of luck with sales.
-Susan Fleet , September 3, 2011
Thank you, Susan. You have a new one coming out soon, too, don't you?
-Donna, September 3, 2011
Well, Donna, I am looking forward to putting out Volume 1 of my Women Who Dared series, a nonfiction short about 2 pioneering female musicians. However, groan, I'm not sure how soon it will be out. If I work my butt off, maybe by end of October ... just in time for Christmas season! Yeaaaa
-Susan, September 3, 2011
Oh yes, Donna. The covers are really very clever. They capture the Victorian era beautifully. I've got to lay my hands on these somehow. It's the postage to Australia that hurts. Would they be available from the UK Book Depository yet?
-Rita Stella Galieh, September 4, 2011
I would be excited too! Nice art! Gives a good feeling!
-Susan, September 5, 2011
Thank you, all!
Rita, the print version is OOP, although there are still copies about on Amazon. There are buy buttons on the "Other Books" menu of my webpage, but these new ones are electronic, so no postage anywhere if you have any sort of an ereader. Of course, Kindle offers Kindle for PC downloads free, but reading on your computer can be rather dreary unless you have a laptop and can sit in a comfy chair. smile. Thank you for asking!
