Idaho Book Extravaganza

By Donna Fletcher Crow ~ October 25, 2010

Meeting readers, connecting with writers, teaching classes on publishing, selling books. . . The First-ever Idaho Book Extrvaganza was an impressive success for all who participated.  The mayor of Meridian's opening speech set the theme for the weekend as she expressed her amazement that the Boise Valley was full of so much talent.  "We need to do more to get the word out,"  she declared.  Everyone heartily agreed.

After teaching my class on Writing the Realistic Novel, the importance and how-to of approaching research, I spent most of my weekend in  my booth greeting long-time fans, connecting with new readers and visiting with other writers.  Boothmates Angela Abderhalden, Questionable Ethics http://ning.it/9mhLta and Jason Wilcox, Dead Time, Aziel's Return http://ning.it/bTw9Oa were a great help with the technology of running my trailer, offering cookies to passers-by and keeping up the energy level when exhaustion threatened.

Best-selling noir writer Vincent Zandri came in from New York:

And Ray Ellis, local noir writer whose book N,H.I.  (No Humans Involved) will be released next month, stopped by.

Author and publisher Aaron Patterson  featured my romantic intrigue THE SHADOW OF REALITY in the StoneHouse Ink booth:

Agent and co-authors Janet and Ron Benrey came in from North Carolina for the event:

And stayed for Sunday afternoon tea:

All that, and at the end of the day I could report a profit.

A most satisfying weekend with everyone looking forward to next year.

I apologize to all for the nuisance of a more difficult spam filter. I had asked my webmaster for a simple code, but we were being deluged with spam. Evidence that we live in a fallen world, I believe, that people would go to so much effort to create mindless chaos.
