Wendy Jones, D.I. Shona McKenzie and Dundee

By Donna Fletcher Crow ~ April 22, 2015

Welcome, Wendy. I'm delighted to have you as my guest today on "Deeds of Darkness; Deeds of Light." What a shame that our shring a cup of Scottish Blend tea has to be virtual.

Donna, thank you for inviting me along to your blog. It is lovely to be here to meet your readers. Let me start by introducing myself I am Wendy H. Jones and despite my very Welsh Surname, I am Scottish to the core. My middle name is Henderson, which is, not only Scottish, but also my great grandmothers maiden name. We know how to do tradition in Scotland.

I was born in Dundee, Scotland, which is on the East Coast, 50 miles North of Edinburgh. It is in the Highlands, which makes me a Highlander. No offence to my Lowlander countrymen, but this is an important distinction. Aged eighteen and two weeks, I left Dundee to join the Royal Navy, and then the British Army. Although I have left the services I still hold the rank of Major as it is the first rank you keep until the day you die. I was a nurse, and then an academic in the services.

Whilst in the services I travelled the world, and have visited most continents. I have an insatiable thirst for travel and visiting new countries and cultures. This has stood me in good stead in my writing. Three years ago I moved back to Dundee, and started writing my first novel. I had previously been published in academic textbooks and journals but, as I had an idea for a mystery in mind, I decided to move to writing fiction. Detective Inspector Shona McKenzie was born.

In Killer’s Countdown, the first book in the DI Shona McKenzie Mysteries, Shona has recently moved from Oxford to Dundee, to take up a post heading up the CID unit in the City. She is now facing her first case. The blurb from the back of the book reads:

Dead Women. A Ruthless Killer. A Detective with something to prove

Newly promoted DI Shona McKenzie struggles to cope with her new job, the respect of her colleagues, and the need to solve the hardest case of her life.

Will she succeed?

The book has been well received and readers are giving very favourable feedback. The next book in the series, Killer’s Craft, will be launched in Waterstones, Dundee on 20th July, 2015.

Dundee, and it’s inhabitants are a large part of the book. I have included some photographs to give you a flavour of the City:       Glamis Castle, Desperate Dan, RSS Discovery, Former friary, now a church, Broughty Ferry

What a grand tour of Dundee, Wendy. It's lovely to get to know more about Dundee than your cake and marmalade--both of which I've loved for years.

Readers looking for an action-packed read that still takes time to develop the charactrs as believable people will love Killer's Countdown.
