Progress Reveal 2 A Wind in the Hebrides visits the Isle of Lewis

Welcome back to our Hebrides adventure as work on book 7 in my Monastery Murders continues. I am nearing the one-third mark in the rough draft—always a milestone for a writer who finds writing first drafts akin to climbing Mount Everest barefoot.
It’s time for Felicity to pursue the information she needs for an address she is scheduled to deliver at the annual conference of her spiritual directors association. She and wee Teddy have left Antony engrossed with his seminar students on the lovely Isle of Iona and ventured on to the Isle of Lewis—the farthest point in the Outer Hebrides—next stop Iceland.
Felicity has found Stornoway, the largest town in the Hebrides, to be a storybook place. 
She leaves her five-year-old son Teddy in the care of Isla, a young woman recommended by Felicity’s friend in Glasgow, and drives across the island in search of an elderly man who saw the Lewis Awakening as a young child. In Barvas she sees the church where it all began. 
Donald John Smith, still living on the same property where his father hosted the all-important prayer meetings shares his memories and fires Felicity’s desire to learn more.
Back in Stonoway, she reads more from Aileana’s notebooks recounting the experience of a young woman who unwillingly abandoned a stellar singing career in Glasgow to return to Lewis in the midst of the miracle sweeping the island. All is going well until a phone call with Antony warns Felicity to be careful—police on Iona are investigating nefarious activities in the Western Isles.
The next day Felicity takes Teddy and Isla with her to go to the very tip of the island in search of Aileana’s background.
They stop at the magnificent Truishal Stone, the largest Standing stone in Scotland. 
Then continue northward to Port of Ness where Aileana’s childhood home still stands on its green cliff overlooking the harbour. 
They picnic at a play park for Teddy. 
Then on to the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse looking out over the North Atlantic. All very picturesque, but is it only a coincidence the same young men Felicity noticed at the standing stone are there as well? Of course it is. Why would anyone be following her?

Donna - I absolutely LOVED this most recent blog article, because I have been - with my very dear Scottish friend whom you met years ago - to almost all of these wonderful and unique-looking and feeling places myself! Stayed for two or three days in Stonoway in a 92 yr. old widow's absolutely elegant home, visited the Truishal Stone and the black houses, spent 1/2 a day in the Callendish area, visited Uig . . . it was all SO charming.I would DEARLY love to return to Lewis with Margaret this late summer or early fall when I'm in Scotland, but I'm not certain if we'll have time to do that: I have several other places on my "must see" list this trip also! Thank you for bringing all these wonderful memories back to me, and I'm GLAD I did not encounter ANY murder! Ha ha!

It's been a while (well, more than a while) since Elizabeth and I started our Hebridean adventure traveling from Ullapool to Stornoway, going up to the Port of Ness, Callanish and down to Harris before island hopping our way down to Iona. A wonderful trip that I would recommend to anyone - but be sure to book your ferries ahead of time!
