Farmers Market Comes to Me

By Donna Fletcher Crow ~ June 18, 2015

I love farmers' markets— fresh produce, locally grown, unusual varieties of vegetables not easily found in stores. . . But the truth is, I seldom get myself out to a market. Always in a hurry. Pick something up quickly at the grocery store. . .

Now I have no more excuses. The Boise Farmers Market has established a Mobile Market that comes to me every Thursday. I found out about it when my daughter-in-law, who had taken two of my grandsons to Winstead Park across the street from us, rang me on the phone to share her discovery. I grabbed my purse and set out instantly— grandchildren and fresh veg all in one—who could make a better offer?

That time I discovered Kohlrabi (wonderful on the crisp red lettuce I also bought) and tiny all-white turnips to slice and saute in butter.

Today's treasures were less exotic, but equally delicious. The blueberries are personally delivered by the Oregon grower every week.

The Mobile Market will continue through August 21. Here's the schedule:

Monday: 3-5 Oak Park Village, 6-7 Latah Village Apartments

Tuesday: 11-1:30 Redwood Park

Wednesday: 11-1:30 Veterans Memorial Park, 6-7:30 Northwest Pointe Apartments

Thursday 11-1 Winstead Park (Hooray!)

Like the Boise Farmers Market Mobile Market and learn more about it on Facebook.
