Mavens of Mayhem at Mysteries on Main Street

By Donna Fletcher Crow ~ October 27, 2014

Mavens of Mayhem— what a great name! Mavens of Mayhem at Mysteries on Main Street— even better. (Just try saying it ten times fast.) And what a great event it was.

Mavens of Mayhem is the name of the upstate New York Sisters in Crime chapter who very kindly invited me to come along and share informally in their panel and book signing at the delightful Mysteries on Main Street book store in historic Johnstown, New York.

What a joy to be in a real book store with actual hold-in-your-hand paper books and to meet a real, live bookseller and talk to enthusiastic readers in person. Yes, it’s been a great convenience on our 6,000 mile road trip to have books on my electronic reader but that’s a completely different experience from settling down with a print book in my hand.

So thank you Patty, for being such a charming hostess at your wonderful bookstore.

Panelists included Sisters in Crime: Jenny Milchman, author of Cover of Snow and Ruin Falls; Susan Sundwall, author of The Super Bar Incident and The Red Shoelace Killer; and one brother in crime Joel Gomez-Dossi, author of Pursued, Deadly Cult and Lethal Elements.

Maven Geri Manchester (pictured below showing off our Sisters in Crime pins) kept the discussion flowing with thought-provoking questions. One of my favorites was, “What is the best advice you’ve ever received?”

And the answers: Jenny, “Don’t give up.” Susan, “Finish the book.” Joel, “Be true to yourself.” And Donna, “Read!”

The afternoon concluded with more informal discussion, book signing and a drawing for gift baskets of books:

Now I can’t wait to read the intriguing new books I bought. And you don’t have to go all the way to Johnstown, New York, to get books from Mysteries on Main Street. You can order them here: http://www.mysteriesonmainstreet.com/

I see some of your new titles seem to be due for publication by Lion Hudson. This is good- it I may be able to get copies, regular or review copies much more easily. I will have to look them up on Netgalley.
-Medievalgirl, November 4, 2014

Hi Medieval Girl, Yes, Lion Hudson did my first 3 Monastery Murders. #4 A NEWLY CRIMSONED RELIQUARY, however, is with Greenbrier Books. I am looking for reviews for the print version which will be out in Jan. 2015. If you do reviews write to me at DonnaFCrow@aol.com. I could send you n electronic review copy.
