Veronica Heley's Murder in Time

By Donna Fletcher Crow ~ July 21, 2014

Murder in Time, Another Ellie Quicke triumph for Veronica Heley.

Ellie Quicke remains as clear-eyed and determined as ever in this, her fifteenth adventure even though her world is turned upside down when she opens the door to the man who raped Vera, Ellie's housekeeper twelve years earlier. Abdi, who cannot sire another child, has returned to claim his son— the brilliant but difficult Mikey who has become such an important part of Ellie's household. Abdi plans to pay Vera off and take Mikey. When his offer is rejected Abdi tries blackmail and force— even force against Ellie and Mikey.

The feisty Vera is brought back into contact with her former boyfriend who rejected her brutally after that fateful night and Ellie must question all of Vera's old friends to find out who betrayed her.

Watching the indomitable Ellie stand up to all injustices is only part of the pleasure when Mikey swings into action to free Ellie and himself from abduction. But I don't want to spoil fun by saying too much— just be ready to cheer.

As if murder and kidnapping weren't enough for Ellie to deal with, she must also solve the mystery of the doctor who was killed on the night of the rape twelve years ago, along with caring for her new grandson— and, of course, dealing with her ever-difficult and demanding daughter Diana.

It's little wonder that Ellie Quicke has become such a favorite with mystery readers around the world. As is her creator Veronica Heley. Veronica keeps rigorous writing schedule which demands that the day after she sends the manuscript of a new Ellie Quicke mystery to her publisher she begins the next installment in her equally successful Abbott Agency series.  On top of that Heley publishes several short stories every year, produces a monthly newsletter for her many avid readers around the world, is active in her local church and carves out time to meet with and encourage fellow writers.

I was privileged to meet with Veronica Heley on a recent trip to London. We had tea in the Friend's room at the Royal Academy, viewed the (somewhat wacky) Summer Exhibition, and posed with Sir Joshua Reynolds in his glorious Summer Exhibition garland.

Veronica Heley's editor sent me a copy of Murder in Time in exchange for an honest review. An opportunity I was delighted to accept. Veronica and her books are true delights.
