Fresh Faces for Old Friends

By Donna Fletcher Crow ~ December 1, 2016

My major project this year has been to get all of my out of print books republished and available at least as ebooks with print editions soon to follow.  As with most such goals, this has taken far, far longer than I ever imagined and I certainly won’t have everything up by the end of 2016—but then, what’s 2017 for?

At least I’ve made significant progress. Just this week two books came out in new editions:

A Newly Crimsoned Reliquary, book 4 in my clerical mystery series The Monastery Murders is back up on Kindle and will soon be available in paperback.

Translating an ancient document in an Oxford convent should be a harmless venture, but Felicity just can’t seem to avoid danger. It’s hardly Felicity’s fault, though, that severed body parts start showing up in ancient holy reliquaries. Or that Felicity and one of the nuns is assaulted. Then Antony arrives in Oxford with a group of students and is disconcerted to learn that Felicity has forged an uneasy friendship with his estranged sister. The family situation is further complicated when Antony is obliged to rush to the bedside of his dying uncle in Blackpool. The exultation of All Saints’ Day plunges to the anguish of grief on All Souls’ when Felicity encounters yet another body.

Who will be the next victim of the murderer stalking the shadows of Oxford’s hallowed shrines?

And Elizabeth, Days of Loss and Hope, the middle volume in my Idaho pioneer family saga The Daughters of Courage came out, soon to be followed by Stephanie, Days of Turmoil and Victory.

Elizabeth has one goal in life—to go to college and become a teacher. But it is 1929 in Kuna, Idaho, and the small family farm doesn’t produce enough to send both Elizabeth and her twin brother to college. Just when it seems Elizabeth’s dreams might come true the stock market crashes and the devastating Great Depression engulfs the nation. Overnight Elizabeth’s anxiety over tuition payments is superseded by fear that her parents will lose the farm. Is this one disaster that even Elizabeth’s faith in hard work and God can’t overcome?

Originally published by Moody Books almost a quarter of a century ago and reissued by Guideposts Book Club, the Daughters of Courage tell of the struggles of Idaho pioneers through three generations: surviving in the desert when their nearest water was 15 miles away in the Snake River, living through the Great Depression and World War II, and then the political turmoil of the 1970’s. Based on accounts from my family and the stories of other Idaho pioneers, it is the story of strong women of faith who fought all obstacles so they and their families could survive and triumph with God’s help.
